Tipoff -- Tomorrow, 5 p.m., Stan Sheriff Center. WAHINE BASKETBALL PLAYBOOK
vs. Southern Methodist
University MustangsCoaches -- Hawaii, Vince Goo, 14th season (270-119, .694); Southern Methodist, Rhonda Rompola, 10th season (183-97, .654).
Season -- Hawaii (9-3 overall, 0-1 conference); Southern Methodist (6-6 overall, 1-0 conference).
Series -- Hawaii leads, 6-1. Last meeting: UH won, 63-51, Feb. 12, 2000.
Top players -- Hawaii, Forward Kylie Galloway (6-foot Sr., 19.0 points and 5.8 rebounds per game); Guard Crystal Lee (5-foot-11 Sr., 15.6 ppg, 4.4 rpg) and Center Dainora Puida (6-4 Sr., 10.4 ppg, 7.5 rpg) ... Southern Methodist, Guard D-dra Rucker (5-10 Sr., 13.7 ppg, 4.5 rpg); Center Katie Remke (6-2 Sr., 10.5 ppg, 8.5 rpg) and Guard Anika Calvert (5-7 Sr., 8.2 ppg, 3.0 assists per game).
Keys -- The Wahine have to play the whole game with intensity on defense, not just the first 32 minutes like they did against Texas Christian last night ... When an opponent gets hot from the field, the Wahine have to put a hand in her face and not give up open looks ... The Mustangs' D-dra Rucker can score points in bunches. She torched San Jose State last night with 30, including 5-for-9 from beyond the arc. Entering that game she was just 4-for-33 from 3-point land, so statistics don't always tell the complete story ... The Wahine have to deal with Katie Remke who controlled the boards with 13 rebounds ... Finally, UH has to rebound after the disappointing loss to TCU.
Also of note -- The Mustangs played a tough preseason schedule and won their road opener at San Jose State yesterday. It was their first victory away from home in five games this season ... UH forward Julia Washington, a redshirt freshman, was in uniform for the first time after recovering from a foot injury, but did not see action last night.
