Island hot spots for a
splashing New Year
celebration

Star-Bulletin

So much for the afterglow. After partying last year new year like it was 1999 -- wait a minute, it was 1999 going on 2000 -- let's just say our millennium madness has chilled.

The year 2000 took all the fun out of the real millennium. Can we agree we all got bashed up a bit? Between the stock market tanking, reality television gaining ground and the presidential election fiasco, 2000 was pretty ugly.

So with pleasure we say, out with the old, in with the new.

The fireworks at Honolulu Harbor on New Year's Eve should chase out the evil spirits. Piers 8 and 9 and the Aloha Tower Marketplace will be buzzing with entertainment, people, people and more people beginning 9 p.m. A live remote KSSK broadcast will keep couch potatoes in touch with the proceedings leading up to the fireworks show at midnight. It's free for the watching.

Here are more of our picks of best places to ring in 2001, whether your taste runs to magic, trance or the tried-and-true S.O.S.
