SIOUX FALLS, S.D. -- It's been one match at a time for the Hawaii Pacific women's volleyball team. Sea Warriors advance
to championshipStaff and wire reports
Today, the Sea Warriors were down to one match. The final one.
Top-ranked HPU put its 27-0 record on the line against host Augustana College in the NCAA Division II championship match (3 p.m. HST).
Yesterday, the Sea Warriors needed just 50 minutes to overwhelm California University (Pa.), 15-10, 15-0, 15-3, in their semifinal match. Game 2 lasted just 10 minutes as HPU did not even complete a service rotation.
"We started off slow but finally got the gears going,'' said Tita Ahuna, who became HPU's winningest coach (110-29) yesterday.
Susy Garbelotti finished with 16 kills. The Sea Warriors hit .405 as a team to the the Vulcans' .061.
Ahuna said she was expecting a crowd of 4,000 today, mostly fans of Augustana.
"The crowd will be a factor if we let them,'' she said. "If we play our game, then we'll silence them.''
