Tracking the games The 21-hour time delay between Sydney and Hawaii gives a unique advantage in covering this year's Games to the World Wide Web. The Internet will offer coverage as the events go on -- no live video, though. So if you're so inclined to stay up until 2 a.m... Total hours of coverage: 162 1/2Tomorrow: Opening, 4:30-9 p.m.
Weekdays: Varies, but generally 10 a.m.-noon; 4-9 p.m.; 9:30-11 p.m.
Weekend coverage: Sept. 16: 10:30 a.m.-noon, 4-9 p.m., 9:30-11 p.m. Sept. 17: 8 a.m.-3 p.m., 4-9 p.m., 9:30-11 p.m. Sept. 23: 6 a.m.-noon; Sept. 24: 7 a.m.-3 p.m. Sept. 30: 6 a.m.-noon. Oct. 1: 8 a.m.-3 p.m.; closing, 4-9 p.m.
What will be covered: Primary focus is on track and field, basketball, baseball, gymnastics, swimming and diving.
Sept. 15 - Oct. 1 MSNBC
Total hours of coverage: 214Weekdays: 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. with repeats of daytime coverage at 9 p.m. to 4 a.m. weeknights.
Weekend coverage: It will vary, but generally 6 or 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. Repeats of daytime coverage will be 9 p.m. to 3 a.m. Oct. 1: 5-8 a.m.
What will be covered: With 103 of its 214 hours of coverage being repeats, MSNBC will have less original coverage than NBC. Although basketball, volleyball, softball and water polo will be covered, MSNBC's focus will be on soccer. The network plans to broadcast six men's soccer games and three women's games. MSNBC unofficially kicked off Olympic coverage by broadcasting soccer bouts yesterday and today (3:30-6 p.m.) which are the only scheduled events prior to the official start of the Games tomorrow.
Sept. 16 - Sept. 30 CNBC
Total hours of coverage: 65Weekdays: 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.
Weekend coverage: 1 p.m. to 6 p.m.
What will be covered: Boxing fans, rejoice. CNBC's coverage is made for you. The first two hours of every broadcast will be devoted to the U.S. boxing team. Afterward, the network will broadcast a variety of sports including basketball, soccer, tennis, cycling, weightlifting and softball.
