Portland police seek
10 solid candidates here

Star-Bulletin

Portland Police Bureau recruiters Jennifer Lawrence and Officer Tim Evans would consider their trip to Hawaii a success if they find 10 solid candidates.

"You have to look at it from a cost-per-hire standpoint," said Lawrence, an outreach recruiter.

"If you can find 25 to test and get 10 solid candidates and two of them become officers, we'd consider this trip to be a success."

Lawrence and Evans, who arrived in Hawaii Sept. 11, hosted an open house at the Prince Kuhio Hotel yesterday.

"We've had a steady stream but not a whole lot of people," Lawrence said.

Lawrence said over 80 people here tested for positions two years ago and about 50 last year.

There are 14-16 officers from Hawaii currently in the Portland Police Bureau, she said.

The Portland recruiters plan to be at the University of Hawaii tomorrow and at the Pearl Harbor Job Fair over the weekend. They may also go to Maui before returning home next Thursday.
