A two-hour television special that will be seen by an estimated 23 million viewers in Japan in January has completed filming on the Big Island and Oahu.

"Stewardess Cop 5-- From HAWAII with Love" is about three fictitious JAL flight attendants -- Asuka, Yuriko and Ruri -- who get involved in murder mysteries in their travels around the globe.

The Hawaii story, written by Kazuhiko Ban, finds the flight attendants caught up in another homicide when a passenger ends up dead shortly after returning to Tokyo from a trip to Kona.

The Fuji Television Network and Japan Airlines co-production prominently features tour spots at each of its destinations.

The $300,000 production filmed for six days on the Big Island last week and completed one day of production on Oahu yesterday. Big Island locations included the Mauna Lani Hotel, Hapuna Beach, Keauhou boat harbor, South Point, Volcano, Hilo, and a montage of scenes shot from a helicopter. The Oahu filming will feature the Moana Surfrider Hotel and Waikiki Beach.

The production brought 36 cast and crew members from Japan, and hired another 15 Hawaii workers. The show stars Naomi Zaizen, Takehiro Murata, Malci Mizuno, Yoshino Mura, Kamiko Yo and Yuka Itaya.

Now in its fifth year of production, "Stewardess Cops" has been filmed in Dallas, Germany, Italy and France.
