Stefan Krejci, the starting setter for the University of Hawaii men's volleyball team most of last season, is not returning to the Rainbows. UH volleyball player
Krejci wont be backBy Dave Reardon
Star-Bulletin"That would be an accurate statement," said UH sports information assistant Derek Inouchi, when asked about Krejci's status.
Krejci could not be reached, but two sources said he wrote to UH coach Mike Wilton saying he would not return.
Krejci performed unevenly last year, particularly during a three-game loss to USC in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation first-round playoffs. Also, he was benched temporarily in midseason.
A source close to the situation said Krejci was told he would have to compete for his starting setter's spot in the 2001 season with sophomore Kyle Denitz and highly regarded incoming freshman Kimo Tuyay from San Diego.
"He was recruited by all the schools," Inouchi said of Tuyay. "UCLA, Pepperdine."
Wilton was unavailable for comment yesterday.
