Southichack fitJanne Virtanen won the $10,000 first prize in the World Strongman Challenge and Noy Southichack took first place and $1,000 in the Miss Bikini Fitness Challenge as 24 Hour Fitness' Beauty & the Beast competition wound up yesterday at Sea Life Park.
Svend Karlsen and Heinz Ollesch finished second and third in the strongmen event. Laura Lasher and Flo Jalin were second and third in Miss Bikini fitness standings.
Hawker, Matz Jorris win
Defending champion Chad Hawker of Seaside, Calif., beat out four-time winner Brent Imonen of Kailua-Kona for the men's title in the 18th annual Keauhou Kona Triathlon yesterday on the Big Island.Heather Matz Jorris of Honolulu took the women's crown, with Kamuela's Carolyn Lowe-Thompson second.
Special Olympics softball
Molokai Na Mo'o captured the Division A gold medal in the Special Olympics Hawaii Summer Games softball finals at Rainbow Wahine Stadium Saturday. The Hilo Explosions took the silver medal.In Division B, the Central Honolulu Terminators won the gold and the Maui Giants earned the silver.
In Unified Division A, the gold went to Maui, the silver to the Kahuku Raiders. In Unified Division B, it was Central Honolulu's Anuenue Tigers taking the gold over the Kauai Invaders, who took home the silver.
Murphy all-regional pick
Sean Murphy of Hawaii was named to the All-NCAA Regional baseball team at Oklahoma City as the designated hitter.Murphy plays for Oklahoma, which lost the regional championship game yesterday to UCLA, 11-3.
Diamond Head No Ka Oi
The Diamond Head No. 1s won the recent men's 50-and-over 4.5 Hawaii Sectionals in United States Tennis League play, qualifying for the national tournament at Palm Springs, Calif., in October.Team members are Hugh Stewart, Mark Gruber, Tom Madison, Ray Handy, Gene McGean, Al Alcon, Brant Kelsey, Jim Lawrence and Gene Descalzi.
