Hello again

Max Lau, 14, of Makiki and Morgan Ellsworth, 13, of
Manoa gaze at the swimming pool through the maile-decorated
gates of the newly renovated Waikiki War Memorial Natatorium
yesterday morning following ceremonies marking its rededication.
Below, skateboarder Oren Long of Manoa finds the smooth
surfaces of the structure's hallways an ideal place for some
sidewalk surfing.


HFD shows off new
fire and rescue gear

Ken Heim, left, a firefighter with Search and Rescue,
checks out the unit's 22-foot boat, equipped with radar
and a depth recorder for rescues and recoveries.

Below, one of two Hazmat trucks that include a
communication center, generator and weather
station. The department also got a jet boat, a jet ski
and four underwater scooters. Funds for the scooters
were donated by the family of Robert Abell, who died
in waters off Lanikai last year. The new equipment
was blessed Friday.
