Medeiros captures
Iz tribute
new sound'Captured' by Glenn Medeiros (Amherst)By John Berger
Special to the Star-BulletinGLENN Medeiros and producer/arranger Carlos Villalobos introduce nine original songs and a dramatic new sound on his latest Amherst album. The ambience is dark, moody and dramatic. The sound is a smooth blend of Latin, techno and contemporary pop. Villalobos uses acoustic guitar to add both a Latin ambience and distinctive textures over rich multi-layered synth tracks. Several of Medeiros' composition are basic pop love songs. Others are longer and more elaborate in construction and lyric content. Medeiros maintains his basic position as a balladeer but with a more mature style that at time suggests George Michael with a hint of Michael Jackson without being derivative of either.
"Sometimes" and "You Should Be Dancing" (the only remake), show that he can handle uptempo dance-club material as well.
