If you want to run in Hawaii's fall election, your deadline to file is 4:30 p.m., July 25, and you will have plenty of parties to affiliate with. 8 political parties
give candidates, voters
a wide choiceHawaii now has eight political parties able to field candidates. The Office of Elections said the Aloha 'Aina, Libertarian, Natural Law and Reform parties have qualified by petition to be listed on Hawaii ballots.
They join the Constitution, Democratic, Republican and Hawaii Green as qualified parties for 2000 elections.
"By qualifying more political parties, Hawaii voters will be offered a variety of political philosophies to choose from -- making for a more open electoral arena," said Dwayne Yoshina, chief election officer.
"We hope that this broadening of choices will mean greater participation in the electoral process by citizens in this state."
To get information on party objectives, you can call the individual parties through the Office of Elections, 453-8683.
