Columns of dark smoke rose above Pearl Harbor as Japanese planes bearing the distinctive red insignias flew attack runs above Battleship Row. But this is not the start of another war. Ford island is the setting for the making of the movie Pearl Harbor, starring Ben Affleck, Kate Beckinsdale and Cuba Gooding Jr.
Restored Japanese planes from World War Two made a series of high-speed passes over Ford Island, giving onlookers an eerie glimpse of what it might have been like during the real attack 59 years ago.

Filming is expected to continue until early May . Meanwhile these aerial enactments will be a shadowy reminder of what was one of the darkest hours in American history.
