"The Insider's Guide to Sake," by Philip Harper
There are sakes for every taste and price range.

Workshop will shake up
your outlook on sake

Chris Pearce would like to see fine sake appreciated in the manner of fine wines. He's leading a workshop, "Introduction to Sake," that will showcase the many different tastes of modern sakes.

"And since it is a sake event, I'm sure we'll have a good time, also," Pearce says.

Pearce, a director of the sake club Kokusai Sake Kai and chairman of World Sake Imports, will present eight different sakes along with "sake no sakana," or appetizers, from the kitchen of Furusato Japanese Restaurant in the Hyatt Regency Hotel.

Pearce says food refines the taste of many sakes.

The noncredit class is offered by the University of Hawaii at Manoa's Outreach College and will take place at Furusato, 5:30-7:30 p.m. March 1. Fee is $58. Must be 21 to attend. Call 956-7221.

Outreach College registration for this class.
