Sullivan wins surfing event

Pancho Sullivan won the third leg of the Asahi Grand Slam of Surfing at Velsyland on the North Shore.

The veteran pro, who was coming off a third-place finish at the Vans Classic on Kauai, narrowly beat Shane Beschen of California and now leads the Grand Slam tour.

Sullivan earned $2,500 for the win.

UH swimmers hold lead

At Long Beach, Calif., the University of Hawaii men's swimming and diving team continued to make a big splash at the Pacific Collegiate Swim Conference Championships.

UH, which won four events and set four PCSC records yesterday, leads second-place Cal State Bakersfield in swimming, 211-186.

Louis Rojas (200 medley), Nick Folker (50 freestyle), and the 400 medley and the 200 freestyle relay teams all won for UH.

Warriors tackle U.S. All-Stars

The Hawaiian Warriors minor league football team will take on the USA All-Star team tomorrow in the Hawaiian Sovereignty Bowl at Kaiser Stadium.

Former Heisman Trophy runner-up Major Harris will quarterback the All-Stars, and the Warriors will feature former local NFL players Nuu Faaola, Danny Crowell and Kale Cockett.

Kickoff will be at 7 p.m. Ticket donation is $5 and proceeds will go toward game expenses.
