Castle & Cooke Castle & Cooke Inc. has given its top Oahu executive, Harry A. Saunders, a share of the responsibility for the company's resort and real estate operations on Lanai and placed its Lanai head, Patrick J. Birmingham, in overall charge of Hawaii operations.

In the consolidation of the operations on the two islands, the two executives share management of the residential and commercial real estate business on Oahu as well as the Lanai operations, said David H. Murdock, chairman and chief executive officer.

Birmingham is now chairman and CEO of Castle & Cooke, Hawaii. He was president and chief operating officer of the company's Lanai Co. unit

Saunders is now executive vice president and chief operating officer of Castle & Cooke, Hawaii. He was senior vice president of Oahu residential and commercial operations. Saunders will report directly to Birmingham.

Los Angeles-based Castle & Cooke's Oahu operations include the Mililani and Royal Kunia residential developments and a number of commercial real estate operations, including the Dole Cannery, Mililani Technology Park, the Town Center of Mililani and the Dole Plantation. On Lanai, the company owns the Manele Bay Hotel and the Lodge at Koele, as well as luxury residential developments next to the resorts.

Castle & Cooke once was part of what is now Dole Food Co. but was spun off as a separate company with its own shares in December 1995. It has significant real estate operations on the mainland.
