Kevin Hayashi shot a final-round 67 for a 54-hole total of 202 and a one-stroke victory yesterday in the Hawaii Pearl Open.

The $12,000 top prize will come in handy for Hayashi. The Hilo Municipal pro plans to play on the Golden Bear Tour in Florida this summer.

Tatsuo Takasaki finished second at 202 after a 6-under 66 at the Pearl Country Club course.

Hayashi, who also won the Pearl Open in 1994, thought he trailed Takasaki by two strokes after 12 holes, not realizing the Japanese pro had taken an illegal drop, costing him a stroke.

"I made my mind up to go all out for the flags," said Hayashi, who birdied 13, 14 and 15.
