coaching honors

University of Hawaii football coach June Jones is among 16 candidates for the Associated Press' College Football Coach of the Year.
Jones, who was hired last December, also is one of five finalists for the Football News Coach of the Year award.
The Rainbow Warriors, 0-12 last season under Fred vonAppen, are co-champions of the Western Athletic Conference with an 8-3 record. After they beat Navy last Saturday, the 'Bows accepted a berth in the Oahu Bowl on Christmas Day against Oregon State.
OSU coach Dennis Erickson is also nominated by AP for coach of the year honors.
