Utah quarterback Darnell Arceneaux will probably miss the rest of the season after suffering what was described as "a massive concussion" during the Utes' 43-29 loss to Wyoming Saturday.

Arceneaux remained in the hospital yesterday, although tests showed no permanent damage.

"He's still seeing a little fuzzy, but a spine test and all other tests came up good," Utah sports information director Liz Abel said.

Arceneaux, a 6-foot-1 junior from Honolulu, lost consciousness after taking a blow to the head during the fourth quarter.

He lay on the turf in the end zone for 15 minutes before being taken to University Hospital. He was able to move his arms and legs after regaining consciousness, the team said.

Arceneaux's uncle, David O'Connor, who lives in Honolulu, said he spoke to his nephew yesterday.

"He's fine but he will miss next week's game with New Mexico and probably the rest of the season," said O'Connor.

O'Connor said Arceneaux was actually unconscious for about five minutes on the field. Then, while being asked questions by the medical personnel attending him, he kept slipping in and out of consciousness.
