Bartels comes up big

Kamehameha volleyball
ranked No. 1

The Kamehameha girls volleyball team earned its second top national ranking this season, this time by sportshuddle.com.

The Warriors, who have won their last 49 matches, are also ranked No. 1 by vball.com.

Tateyama sets record

Pearl City alumnus Trisha Tateyama scored the first goal of the game to set a new Seattle University all-time scoring record, to help the Seattle women's soccer team defeated Concordia University, 6-0.

Tateyama entered the game tied with Ingrid Gunnestad at 113 career points. Tateyama's goal not only captured the scoring title, but tied her with Gunnestad for most goals in a season, at 20.

Tateyama, a senior, has done the most scoring this year. She ranks in the top two in all Seattle offensive categories. She is second in career assists with 38 and her 40 career goals palces her just four shy of Gunnestad's record of 44.

Hawaii Senior Olympics

The second annual Hawaii Senior Olympics will open November 20 with swimming competition at the University of Hawaii pool, and will continue through November 29.

Competition in 16 sports is planned, with all competition arranged in 5-year age groupings, beginning at age 50. A registration fee of $25 is required for all individual events. Team events require a $25 team entry plus $10 for each athlete.

The Hawaii games are open to any male or female from anywhere in the world who is at least 50 years of age by Dec. 31. Three events -triathlon, 10K road race and cycling time trials - also are open to masters competitors 40 years of age.

Registration materials are available through the Hawaii Senior Games Association (732-8805).
