Murder mystery benefits Hawaii
Star-Bulletin
Foodbank and Mauli OlaAngel Martinez, innocent food-taster, is dead. Ester Feeblehowzer, innocent food-taster, is dead. Buff Corea, not-so-innocent secretary, is dead. And Waltah Babooze, private detective of dubious credentials, is dying.
Who dunnit?
For the benefit of the Hawaii Foodbank and the Mauli Ola nutrition program, pay your five bucks and try to solve the crime. You can assemble a team of five if you need help. Whoever solves it first is the winner, although it's a spiritual victory only -- no prize.
As a side benefit, enjoy entertainment by Na Pualei o Likolehua; learn something from the information booths (the Honolulu Club will analyze your body fat by computer); and examine locally grown produce from island farms.
The secondary theme of the annual Culinary Capers event is healthy eating. Producers of the event are the Department of Health Nutrition Program, the Hawai'i 5 A Day Coalition, Mauli Ola and Queens Medical Center.
Their message: Eat your veggies. And fruits, five servings a day, you know the drill.
Emphasizing this theme will be a half-dozen cooking demonstrations featuring "plant-based cuisine." The hosts:
Kelvin Ro, executive chef, Washington Place
Todd Constantino, sous chef, David Paul's Diamond Head Grill
Herbert Hoe, 'Ai Pono/Traditional Hawaiian Diet
Eileen Towata, Castle Hospital
Harris Brazina, Well Bento
Cake decorators from the Navy's Pearl of the Isle Restaurant
