Nordic's leader hopes to build business

Glen A. Kaneshige takes over the top job at Nordic Construction Ltd., replacing Gordon L. Scruton who recently retired. "This a tough market, and we're all just trying to survive," Kaneshige said. "You have to use creative maneuvering to survive."

For Nordic, this will include more effective marketing and offering additional pre-construction services to let clients have a better understanding of costs, he said.

Kaneshige has 19 years in construction and has been with Nordic for 15 years, most recently as executive vice president and vice president for field operations. He is a board director for the General Contractor's Association.

The graduate of Iolani School earned a bachelor's degree in civil engineering from the University of California at Berkeley and a master's degree in civil engineering from the University of Michigan.

Nordic Construction was founded in 1938. The company worked with PCL Construction on the Hawaii Convention Center.
