Kona class covers agriculture tourism

A workshop in Kona Aug. 6 will detail the possibilities of agricultural tourism, including promoting successful farm visits, integrating Hawaii's history and culture into agricultural tourism, building partnerships with government and how to sell Hawaii-grown products to visitors.

The University of Hawaii-organized workshop at the Aston Keauhou Beach Resort will show how tourists' experience of Hawaii can be made more interesting while promoting Hawaii agricultural products.

Speakers will include George Rothwell, board president of the Napa Valley Mustard Festival, and Hawaii cuisine expert Peter Merriman.

Gold prices decline to a 20-year low

LONDON -- Gold plunged to a 20-year low after the Bank of England sold 25 metric tons at a below-market price in a scheduled auction, the first of several traders expect before next April. The bank sold the gold for $261.20 an ounce, a 0.4 percent discount on the price when bidding closed. On commodities markets today, gold fell to $257.60.

Prudential analyst raises Dow forecast

NEW YORK -- Prudential Securities Inc.'s director of technical research, Ralph Acampora, has raised his target on the Dow Jones industrial average to 13,000 by year end. The target was raised from 11,500 "because of the fact the interest rate concern is behind us and good earnings are expected," he said. The Dow today closed at 11,135 points.

Drkoop.com soars after AOL deal

AUSTIN, Texas -- Drkoop.com Inc., an Internet site founded by former U.S. Surgeon General C. Everett Koop, said it will become the largest health-information provider for No. 1 online service America Online Inc., sending its shares up 56 percent.

Drkoop.com shares rose $13.25 to close at $36.87 in Nasdaq trading today.
