Smith leads Hawaii
pack in Boston

John Smith, a University of Hawaii oceanographer, ran the best Hawaii time in yesterday's 103rd Boston Marathon, followed by McKinley High alumnus Jonathan Lyau.

The 38-year-old Smith finished in 2:37:05, while the 34-year-old Lyau had a time of 2:43:37.

Smith and Lyau ran together until the 15-kilometer mark in Natick before separating.

A total of 24 Hawaii residents were registered to run.
