Wahine in ninth

The Hawaii women's golf team was in ninth place after the first day of the 11-team Western Athletic Conference golf championships yesterday at Livermore, Calif.

The Wahine shot an aggregate 322, leaving them 26 strokes behind leader Texas Christian.

Linda Appelblad and Angie Park each shot a 79 for Hawaii, putting them in a five-way tie for 29th place in the individual standings. Tulsa's Niina Laitinen led the field with a 1-under 71.
