Church redress offer includes
land, money, services
Here is the proposed redress package to native Hawaiians to be considered in mid-June by the Hawaii Conference of the United Church of Christ:
CONVEYANCE OF LAND
- Oahu: The 8,563-foot University Center at 2231 Sea View Ave. in Manoa Valley. Estimated 1996 tax assessment value: $515,400.
- Hawaii: A 1,058 acre parcel and a 250 acre parcel located in Halai Hills in Punahoa, Hilo. Value: $269,000 and $69,700, respectively.
- Maui: The 4,504-square-foot Paia Chinese Church site at 154 Hana Highway, Paia. Value: $119,500.
- Molokai:
The one-acre Halawa Hawaiian Church site in Halawa Valley. Value: $10,600.
- Kauai:
The 7,377-square-foot Chinese Christian Church site in Waimea. Value: $112,000.
GRANTS
- $1.5 million to Hawaiian churches.
- $1 million to establish the Pu'a Foundation.
- $1 million to the Association of Hawaiian Evangelical Churches in support of small Hawaiian churches and for theological education.
FACILITIES OR SERVICES
- The Hawaii Conference and the Hawaii Conference Foundation will provide facilities, furniture, fixtures, equipment, personnel and services to the Pu'a Foundation.
- The foundation is funded by redress grants from the United Church Board of Homeland Ministries and/or the United Church Board of World Ministries. It recently received a $1.25 million grant from the national church.
