Wie needs big payday to avoid Q-school

It wasn't a particularly good day for Hawaii's three golfers on their respective professional tours.
Michelle Wie shot an even-par 71 at the Jamie Farr Owens Corning Classic yesterday and is tied for 54th at even-par 213. She trails leader Paula Creamer by 18 shots, but more importantly, she needs a good round today in order to ensure a viable payday.
If Wie wants to join the LPGA Tour next year without going to Q-school, she has to finish among the top 90 moneywinners. She needs a big check or two in the final two tournaments she is playing in to make that happen.
On the PGA Tour, local boys Dean Wilson and Parker McLachlin struggled as they dropped near the bottom of the leaderboard at the John Deere Classic. Wilson began the day tied for 12th, but plummeted to a tie for 66th after shooting a woeful 5-over 76. McLachlin is tied for 69th after shooting a 2-over 73.
