Glasses make the man,
or at least the joke

GLASSES AREN'T FUNNY?: Comedian Kaleo Pilanca can't explain it, but he always has to work harder to get laughs when he wears glasses. Pilanca probably won't wear glasses Sunday at Da Bruddahs' first Daddy's Day "Daddy Get Enough Coffee Cup & Tie" Brunch in the Magic of Polynesia Showroom. Among the door prizes Tony J. Silva and James P. Roche will give out before the show starts are, yes, coffee cups and ties ...

LIKE FIGHT?: Lionel Wright has less time for his "Black Hawaiian" clothing line since joining the Papakolea FIGHT Club, a non-profit community group organized to encourage people of all ages to make healthy choices in diet and lifestyle (FIGHT is short for Friends Investing in Getting Healthy Together). Those who know "old skool" local hip hop recognize Wright as the voice of Club Rox Rock, one of the first Hawaii hip hop acts. For more information on the program go to www.papakolea.org ...

CONGRATULATIONS: To Allison Chu, on getting international Internet radio play on Yellow Beat at www.yellowbeat.com ... And to Emiri Tsuji, this year's Makaha Sons Scholarship recipient ...

OUR BAD!: Thanks to Jimi Wheeler for letting us know last week's birthday list was a week early ... Belated birthday wishes to Kapono Beamer, DJ Daniel J, Hoku Ho, Chucky Boy Chock, Devon M.T. Nekoba, Kaitlyn Kiyan, Jim Nabors, Alan Akaka, Alfredo Romero, Beverly Noa and Jim Howard ... One guy we didn't mention prematurely, Yemun Chung, celebrates tomorrow ...
