Waters commits to Warriors basketball team

Dominic Waters, a high scoring point guard from Portland, Ore., is expected to join the Hawaii basketball program next season after submitting a national letter of intent to the school.

Waters would be the third point guard -- and the second high schooler -- to sign with the Rainbow Warriors this spring as they bolster their backcourt depth. UH received letters from Hiram Thompson, a prep standout from Northern California, and John Wilder, a junior transfer from Weatherford College, last week.

Waters (6-foot-1, 160 pounds) averaged 23.4 points for Grant High School in Portland to finish second in the state in scoring. He was named the Portland Interscholastic League's Player of the Year and was selected to the Portland Tribune's All-City team.

UH coaches are not allowed to comment on recruits until their paperwork is cleared by the school.
