Cal Baptist water polo splits with Hawaii foes

California Baptist defeated Chaminade 13-6 then lost to Brigham Young-Hawaii 14-9 in men's water polo matches Saturday at BYUH.

Shawn Phillips and Milos Matijebac each scored twice for the Silverswords (0-2).

The 14th-ranked Seasiders (3-1), broke open a tight match with six goals in the third period. Vanja Kalabic led BYUH with four goals.

BYUH and 20th-ranked Cal Baptist play again tonight at 7.

Organizations benefit from funds

Friends of Hawaii Charities and the 2003 Turtle Bay Championship golf tournament distributed $70,000 to North Shore recipients Friday.

The grant monies were raised during the PGA Champions Tour event Oct. 10-12 at the Turtle Bay Resort's Arnold Palmer course.

Community organizations receiving grants were Kahuku Hospital, Haleiwa, Hauula, Kahuku, Laie, Waialua and Sunset Beach elementary schools, Kahuku Community Association, Kahuku Elderly Housing, Kahuku High and Intermediate School, Kahuku Library, Koolauloa Educational Alliance and the North Shore Lifeguard Association.

Also, the National Scholastic Surfing Association, North Shore Community Health Clinic, Save the Sea Turtles International, Waialua High and Intermediate schools, St. Michael's School, YMCA Camp Erdman, Victory Ohana Prison Fellowship, Hawaii State Junior Golf Association, PGA Aloha Section and New Hope Christian Fellowship.
