Kodama finishes season at regional

University of Hawaii senior Matt Kodama failed to qualify for the NCAA Championships after shooting a 4-over 76 in the final round of the NCAA Men's Golf West Regional in Sunriver, Ore., yesterday.

Top-seeded UCLA won its second straight regional title while UCLA's Travis Johnson and Arizona's Chris Nallen shared the individual title. The top 10 teams also qualified for the NCAA Championships.

Preston joins Singletary for NCAA program

Notre Dame assistant football coach Albert "Buzz" Preston was one of 12 college football coaches selected on Friday for the NCAA Expert Coaching Program.

Scheduled for June 1-3 in Indianapolis, the program is designed to help develop minority coaches for head coaching and athletic department administrative positions.

Preston worked with the special teams, receivers and defensive backs and was the strength and conditioning and film coordinator for the UH football team early in his coaching career. Preston played for Hawaii 1978-79.

Preston joins UH defensive line coach Vantz Singletary in the coaching program.

New York Institute of Technology won the tournament after finishing with a 3-0 record. Hilo, which went 0-3 in the tournament, ended its season at 9-43.
