» Tyler Yates (Kauai, Hawaii-Hilo), who allowed no hits in 5 2/3 innings in his only start for the Norfolk (Va.) Tides of the International League, was recalled by the New YorK Mets yesterday.
» First baseman Kila Ka'aihue (Iolani) had a career-night Friday when he homered for the second consecutive game and drove in a career-high six runs for the Burlington Bees of the Class A Midwest League. The Bees defeated Dayton 9-6 to end a seven-game losing streak.
» Chad Santos (St. Louis), the Wichita Wranglers first baseman, is tied for second in the Class AA Texas League with eight home runs. He hit three last week.
» Chris Truby (Damien) left Friday's game in the bottom of the first inning with a back injury. The Nashville Sounds' third baseman had driven in a run with a double and later scored in the top of the first in a PCL game at Sacramento. Nashville won 8-7.
» Pat Scalabrini (Seminole State, Hawaii) began his fourth season in independent ball Thursday with the Winnipeg Goldeyes of the Northern league. He is one of 11 Canadians on manager Hal Lanier's Winnipeg roster. Scalabrini was successful on 51 of 63 stolen base attempts during his first three pro seasons. Ironically, none of his 247 hits has been a triple.
» Kaulana Kuhalua (Waianae, Los Angeles City College, Long Beach State) leads Hawaii's minor leagu eplayers with five stolen bases. The middle infielder plays for the Fort Myers Miracle in the Class A Florida State League. Overall, players from Hawaii have been successful on 23 of 27 stolen base attempts.
