Seasiders sign water polo goalie

Kenny Nicholas, an all-star goalie out of Royal High in Simi Valley, Calif., has signed a letter of intent to play for the Brigham Young-Hawaii men's water polo team.

The 6-foot-3 Nicholas had 265 saves the past two seasons and was inducted into the Ventura County Sports Hall of Fame. He captained Royal's water polo, basketball and volleyball teams this year.

Nicholas is the second Marmonte League player signed by Seasider coach Aukai Ferguson this spring. Signing earlier was driver Daniel Carson of league champion Newbury Park.

Scott's team top qualifier in China

Former University of Hawaii volleyball player Sean Scott and teammate Todd Rogers are the top seeds in the 30-team qualification portion of the SWATCH-FIVB Beach World Tour at Lianyungang, China, this week.

Rogers-Scott had a first-round bye and will meet No. 16 seeds Gerson Pocock and Colin Rorich of South Africa today in one of eight main draw qualifying matches.

Scott, from Kailua, won his first-ever pro beach title when he and Rogers captured the AVP event in Tempe, Ariz., April 25.

Former Punahou and UCLA standouts Stein Metzger and Kevin Wong are already in the main draw. Metzger is teamed with Dax Holdren and Wong with Eric Fonoimoana.
