Going to the Good Guys
to get a good guitar

SHIFTY Shellshock a k a Seth Brooks Binzer, frontman for Crazy Town, known for the 1999 hit "Butterfly," made a few visits to Good Guys Music on Kapahulu earlier this month. Bryan Aoyagi said the singer purchased a guitar to be used on the group's next CD cover. Binzer returned to the shop last week to buy a guitar bag for transporting the instrument on the plane. ... Honolulu Symphony principal timpanist Stuart Chafetz, recently named one of this year's Emerging Artists in the conductor category by the American Symphony Orchestra League's Symphony magazine, is scheduled to guest with the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra Friday at the Orpheum Theatre in New Orleans. ... James McDonald, executive chef of Pacific'O and I'o restaurants in Lahaina, will be sharing his talents on the mainland. THOSE WHO LONG for four-part vocal harmonies of days long gone can hear those sounds again next weekend. International quartet champions 4 Voices will harmonize barbershop style in "Rhinestone Rides Again." The melodrama by the Sounds of Aloha Chorus begins at 7:34 p.m. April 30 and May 1 at the Hawaii Theatre. Those who arrive 30 minutes early will get an extra treat -- John McCreary will perform on the Robert Morton Theatre organ. Tickets are $12 to $25. Call 528-0506.

CAREY HUNTER, 21, and her sister Reina Amine, 32, were first in line for AVEDA Salon & Spa's cut-a-thon at Ala Moana Center Sunday. The pair arrived at 7 a.m. for the 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. event. By the time 10 a.m. rolled around there were more than 200 people waiting for haircuts (only 78 people got new 'dos). Quick-thinking personnel began setting up appointments at 9:30 a.m. so people could stroll the mall rather than wait in line. Spa director Lindsay Schwinck said those who didn't make the cut and left their names and addresses would receive a small gift in the mail. AVEDA haircuts normally run $50 to $80 but were only $20 that day with all proceeds benefiting Hawaii Nature Center. More than $2,000 was raised. If you missed that bargain, check out the salon's Earth Nite on Thursday, also to benefit the nature center. For $25, choose one of the following three packages valued from $40 to $85: The "earth" package includes a foot bath and stress-relief treatment, the "air" package comes with a quick face cleanse and make-up touch up, and the "water" package gives your hands a facial and eucalyptus steam. A Pure-fume spirit ($25 value) will also be given. Reservations are limited. Call 947-6141.
