Mathias takes home Turtle Bay championship

Jonathan Mathias passed first-day leader John Bascuk to win the Turtle Bay Amateur yesterday at the resort's Arnold Palmer Course.

The title came down to the first playoff hole, where Mathias hit a 9-foot birdie putt to win the championship. Both Mathias and Bascuk finished with 3-under 147s after two rounds of play.

In the A Flight, Robert Ota shot a 7-under 151, beating out second-place finisher John Iyoki by seven strokes. Michael Bianchi took top honors in the B Flight with a total of 156, while Tom Phillips won the C Flight with a 176.

It was the second event of the Governor's Cup season.
