String masters

A quartet of quality musicians has been quietly performing special concerts and hosting seminars around the islands over the last few months. The "Ukulele and Slack Key Masters Winter Tour" stops into the Doris Duke Theatre at the Honolulu Academy of Arts tomorrow, as Ledward Kaapana, Gordon Mark, and Dennis and David Kamakahi take the stage. The 7:30 p.m. concert is $18 general, and $15 for seniors, students and Academy members. Call 532-8700 for info.

Parrotheads alert!

Jimmy Buffett will bring his Coral Reefer Band to the Waikiki Shell Jan. 28. No news when tickets go on sale or prices. Mr. Margaritaville last performed here in March 2002 at Duke's Canoe Club at Outrigger on the Beach. In November, Buffett, who has performed in Hawaii several times, shared the Country Music Award for vocal event of the year with singer Alan Jackson for "It's Five O'Clock Somewhere."
