The Vandals
punk it up
at Pipeline

LOOKS like Honolulu is becoming a popular destination for Southern California's old school punk bands.

Following in the footsteps of True Sounds of Liberty and D.I. (both groups played shows at Club Pauahi in November), punk veterans The Vandals have announced a concert next month in support of their latest album, "Internet Dating Superstuds." It's been almost three years since their last performance, a gig at the old World Cafe back in March of 2001.

Tickets for the Jan. 14 show at Pipeline Cafe go on sale Saturday, and will set you back $17.50. All ages are welcome; call 877-750-4400 to order by phone ...

IF YOU haven't heard by now, the Keawe Street nightspot formerly known as Grumpy's underwent a change in management last month and is now known as the Velvet Lounge. Unfortunately for KTUH's DJ Loriel and the Empire Sound Crew, it also meant an end to their reggae night on Saturdays.

After a few weeks off, however, the guys resurface at Indigo tonight during "Spin Drift," alongside the Nocturnal Sound Krew, DJ Bennie James (another KTUH staffer) and Microscopic Syllables. Show up at Indigo before 10 p.m. and you'll slide right in without having to pay cover ...

ALSO KICKING off for the first time tonight at Sansei Seafood Restaurant and Sushi Bar is "Dynamite," a new collaboration by Double-O-Spot, Goldenchild and DFX.

Doors open at 10 p.m. for this one, and DJs Dawn, G-Spot, Mixmaster B, Princess Leya, Risup and Stealth are scheduled to get on the decks in one of Sansei's two rooms. Five bucks gets you access to this 21-and-over party, and don't forget about the half-price sushi! Call 536-6286 ...

OVER AT Volcanoes Nightclub tomorrow night, check out the gang from Blue Planet Surf as they celebrate their 10-year anniversary with an evening of live entertainment and over $2000 in prize giveaways.

B.E.T., Kahiau and Koa'uka will be on hand for this one, as will professional surfers Jairus Cannon, Kanoa Dahlin, Duane Desoto and Bonga Perkins. Tickets are $12 at the door ($8 if you buy them in advance at Blue Planet), and doors open at 8 p.m. Call 922-5444 ...

AND ON Saturday, head down to Honolulu Hale for the opening night of this year's Honolulu City Lights display. The free fun starts at 4 p.m., with a tree lighting ceremony taking place at 6 p.m. and a concert featuring Five by 5 with Simplisity, Hapa, Henry Kapono and Jordan Segundo scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m. Call 527-5666 ...
