Transpacific Yacht Race sailors and volunteers from local yacht clubs and businesses tested their boat-building skills yesterday as part of a fund-raiser for United Cerebral Palsy. Different crews built a boat out of 1 1/2 sheets of quarter-inch plywood, nails and caulking in 1 1/2 hours and then raced their finished boats -- hoping they wouldn't sink -- next to Magic Island. The team from the Kaneohe Yacht Club won.
