When Kenny Williams, a professional photographer and avid hiker, heard that 11-year-old Kahealani Indreginal had been abducted from her Makalapa housing project, he wanted to help.

Friday, after police had been hunting for almost three days, Williams pulled out a map and looked for what he thought would be an isolated area. He knew police had hunted the entire Makalapa area for her with dogs and helicopters. He picked a spot in Keaiwa State Park, the Aiea Loop trail.

"I found her in 30 minutes. It was divine intervention," said Williams, who is very familiar with the hiking area. "I drove through a series of parking lots and went right to the right parking lot and then right to the trail where I found her."

He added, "I didn't make any turns or stops. I went straight to her and found her within 30 minutes of leaving my house."

Honolulu Homicide Lt. Bill Kato confirmed that Williams was the hiker who found the body and called them from his cell phone at 1:59 p.m.

Williams said he drove to the park, passing up many parking lots along the way until he noticed a lot down a small hill that overlooked a valley. He walked to the trailhead below the parking lot where the main trail turned right and a small one flowed left.

He said he suddenly noticed a swarm of butterflies, the kind he has photographed, on the smaller trail and took it as a sign to follow that trail.

Then a small glove lying in the middle of the trail caught his eye. He walked in the direction the fingers were pointing and stopped at a small overlook. He started to leave when the sound of chickens clucking and scurrying made him turn around again and looked.

That's when he found her, he said.
