HPU, Hilo ready for some volleyball

Hawaii Pacific and Hawaii-Hilo will kick off their college volleyball seasons at the Hawaiian Style Classic at Hilo Friday.

The two local teams will start off in different pools and won't face each other unless they hook up in the single-elimination tournament that follows.

The Sea Warriors, ranked No. 18 in NCAA Div. II, begin Friday against Northwood (Mich.) at 1:30 p.m. and play again against East Texas Baptist at 7:30 p.m.

The host Vulcans received 19 votes in the initial NCAA poll and will face Evergreen State (Wash.) at 5:30 p.m. and North Dakota at 7:30 p.m.

Both teams play a game Saturday before entering the tournament. The championship will be Sunday at 2 p.m.

Viloria bout moved back to 4:30 p.m.

Waipahu boxer Brian Viloria's fight for the North American Boxing Federation title has been moved back from 4 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Hawaii time Friday, according to his manager Gary Gittelsohn.

The fight will be the main event of "Black Tie Boxing" at Cipriani Hotel in New York, N.Y., and aired by ESPN2.

Viloria (8-0, 6 KOs) will take on Garbriel Munoz (29-11-1, 18 KOs).

The fight is scheduled for 12 rounds and Viloria has never gone more than five. Compounding the problem, Munoz has been stopped in only two of his 40 professional fights, the last time to NABFNo. 2 Luis Maldanado last August. Viloria is ranked No. 3 by the NABF.
