Cheryl Smith and the Hawaii cross country team continued to dominate, winning another meet yesterday on the Big Island.

Smith finished the 5K Hilo Invitational in 17 minutes, 49 seconds -- two seconds ahead of Hawaii Pacific's Nina Christensen.

HPU's Lisa Blomme (17:59), Sayuri Kusutani (18:03) and Hawaii's Casey McGuire-Turcotte (18:16) rounded out the top five.

As a team, the Wahine collected 28 points, followed by HPU (46), Brigham Young-Hawaii (71) and Chaminade (97).

In the men's 8K, Christian Madsen of HPU placed first with a time of 27:27. Buck Stone (28:12) took second place for Chaminade.

The Sea Warriors also claimed the men's team title.

Smith, a senior, has finished first for the Wahine in all of its meets and has won four of the six invitationals she has run in, including setting a course record at the Willamette Invitational, in 16:56.
