Murakami 'improving'

University of Hawaii head baseball coach Les Murakami, hospitalized following a stroke 10 days ago, continues to show improvement, according to a spokesman for the Queen's Medical Center.

According to the spokesman, the 64-year-old Murakami is still in critical condition in the intensive care unit, but the swelling in his brain has decreased. Murakami's sedation is gradually being reduced and the doctors anticipate the coach will regain consciousness this weekend.

"He's come a long way,'' said the spokesman.
