Like old times
in Waikiki

Revisit old Waikiki Sunday, when the public is invited to "Reawaken Waikiki" from 2 to 8 p.m. at the new Kapiolani Park Bandstand and Kuhio Beach Park.

At the bandstand, sit near the reflecting ponds and ironwood trees to hear the Royal Hawaiian Band perform at 2 p.m.; take in a hula performance by Na 'Opio O Ko'olau from 3 to 4 p.m.; and listen to the Honolulu Symphony from 4 to 5 p.m.

The new Kuhio Beach stage next to the Duke Kahanamoku statue will feature halau performances beginning at 2 p.m., and at 6 p.m. there will be 1,000 hula dancers performing along the shore of Kuhio Beach in celebration of Aloha Week.

Taste island favorites such as manapua, dim sum, fresh tropical fruit and Pulehu chicken, available for purchase.

Also, take a free lesson from one of Waikiki's beach boys, preview the new Edgy Lee film "Waikiki" and take a sunset canoe ride.

Free parking will be available at Kapiolani Community College, with complimentary Kuhio Beach Trolley Shuttle rides throughout the day. For more information, call 547-7320.
