Small-business
group to watch
Legislature closely

The state Capitol won't be the only place that will mark the opening of the 2000 state Legislature on Wednesday.

The Small Business Economic Revival Force plans a pau hana party that evening at the Diamond Head end of Auahi Street in Kakaako. Coordinator Bev Harbin said the event is to kick off what the group hopes will be inclusion of the small-business community in the legislative process.

The business watchdog group also hopes to raise funds to set up a Web site and establish a small-business network. Call 591-0000 for more information.

Harbin said the past decade was a terrible time for small business in Hawaii, and people now resent and distrust state government. She hopes things will change.

"The Legislature and the administration have promised a new way of working together to bring about a new economy," Harbin said.

"SBER intends to hold their feet to the fire and keep the business community -- and the public -- apprised of their progress."
