Unbeaten Wahine
are No. 2 in poll

The University of Hawaii women's volleyball team remained the No. 2 team in the country, according to the USA Today/AVCA Division I coaches top 25 poll released yesterday.

The Wahine (15-0) received 19 first-place votes and 1,457 points. Penn State (16-1) stayed at No. 1, receiving the remaining 41 votes and 1,478 points.

Hawaii is one of three undefeated teams in the country. The Wahine resume WAC play Saturday, hosting SMU in a 7 p.m. match at the Stan Sheriff Center.

BYUH, Hawaii Pacific 1-2

Brigham Young-Hawaii (14-1) and Hawaii Pacific (15-2) are ranked 1-2 for the third straight week in the AVCA Division II Coaches national volleyball poll.

Isle club pros on mainland

Eight Aloha Section PGA pros are entered in the Western PGA Club Professional Championship beginning tomorrow at the Santa Ana Golf Club in Bernalillo, N.M.

They are Ko Olina's Mark Chapleski and Brad Davis, John Freitas (Hualalai), Ben Hongo and Brian Stock (Kapalua), Brendan Moynahan (Koele), Brian Sasada (Makena) and Beau Yokomoto (Pearl Country Club).

The top 28 finishers in the 113-player, 72-hole tournament will qualify for the 2000 PGA Club Professional Championship next June at Edmond, Okla.

BYUH soccer team loses

BYU-Hawaii lost, 4-0, to nationally fifth-ranked Seattle Pacific yesterday in a men's soccer match at Seattle. The Falcons improved to 10-2-1 while the Seasiders dropped to 3-3.

New KCCN sports show

Jeff Portnoy, the color commentator for University of Hawaii men's basketball, will host a new weekly sports talk show, "Sports Reporters" on KCCN 1420-AM beginning tonight at 6:30.

The show's inaugural guests are KHON Channel 2's Bob Hogue and Cindy Luis of the Honolulu Star-Bulletin.
