of Hoku nomineesSome familiar faces and some new categories are on the list of nominees for the 1999 Na Hanohano Awards.
The late Israel Kamakawiwo'ole, Brothers Cazimero and duo Amy Hanaiali'i Gilliom and Willie K head the list of nominees in the 1999 Na Hoku Hanohano Awards. Each has five nominations.
New categories are Compilation Album of the Year, Reggae Album of the Year and Christmas Album of the Year.
In another twist, Azure McCall is nominated as Female Vocalist of the Year, marking the first time a jazz singer has been nominated for the award.
The awards, presented by the Hawai'i Academy of Recording Arts, will be announced May 23 in a gala event at the Sheraton Waikiki Hotel, that will be broadcast live on KFVE. Tickets are $90 and will go on sale April 26. Call 235-9424 for more information.
