Former Hawaii guard Anthony Carter will sign a free-agent contract with the Detroit Pistons, a spokeswoman for his agent, Bill Duffy, said.

Carter, who led the Rainbows to consecutive 21-win seasons from 1996-98, had been playing for Yakima in the Continental Basketball Association.

PRO SKATEBOARDERS AT WAIMANALO: Professional skateboarders on the Vans Warped Tour will compete in a tour event Saturday at Waimanalo Polo Field.

Friday at 2:30 p.m., Goldenvoice will present an exhibition at the polo field featuring Vans Warped Tour pros on the Vans 15-foot, custom-built vertical ramp. The ramp will be donated to the Kapahulu Skate Park.
BARBOZAS RUN 1-2: Leonard Barboza of Mililani beat out his 16-year-old son, Shea, in the drag-racing final of the Goodyear Season Opener at Hawaii Raceway Park last Saturday night.
Shea, driving a 1989 Chevy S-10 pickup, got the jump. But Leonard thundered past his son at 135-plus mph to win.
