Say kids, those lazy, hazy, crazy days of summer are almost here, and though we won't admit it to our parents, those sun-filled hours can be boring if there's nothing special planned to fill them. Check out this list for cool stuff you can sign up to do this summer:
Stage One introduces children 7 to 12 to the process of theater and drama. Stage Two engages continuing and advanced students 13 to 18 in the craft of acting. The six-week programs run 1 to 4:30 p.m. weekdays, beginning June 17, at Temple Emanu-El. Tuition $410; to reserve a space, send application with a nonrefundable registration fee of $50 by May 15. The Summer Ocean Studies course is based at the University of Hawaii at Manoa and includes field trips to Kaneohe Bay, Kewalo Basin, Honolulu Harbor and other shoreline sites. Tuition $400 Hawaii residents, $650 nonresidents, with additional fees. Ask your science teacher for an application form or call 923-9741 before May 17. Students who pass receive a credit in technical science, and may continue with BML in the Cruise Instructor Program.
Exploring Art, Drawing & Painting and Ceramics classes are divided by grade level and meet Tuesday through Friday. Tuition $155. Call 532-8741.
Teams of adults and preschoolers ages 3 to 5 meet 9 to 11 a.m. Mondays, June 24 though July 22, for projects in painting, printmaking, collage, clay and more. Tuition $85; for a team of one adult and two children, $105.i
Students entering grades 1 through 6 participate in Peacemakers activities, Hawaiian studies, studying simple machines, drama and weekly excursions, June 3 through Aug. 15. Students may also join "Hauoli Na Keiki," a program of crafts, nature studies and hikes.
"A Kalihi Gecko in King Arthur's Court" leads children 6 to 12 to lands of dragons, good deeds and magic. Storytime is 2:30 p.m. Wednesdays, June 19 through July 24.
"Baby Magic" entertains tots to age 2 with stories and rhymes 9:30 a.m. Tuesdays, June 18 though July 23.
"Summer Magic," for pre-schoolers, is 10:30 a.m. Tuesdays.
