Zakharova wins Honolulu Marathon for third time

Svetlana Zakharova of Russia won her third Honolulu Marathon today, in a non-record time of 2 hours, 28 minutes and 34 seconds.
Zakharova ran with defending champion Kyoko Shimahara of Japan and Kenyan Pamela Chepchumba before breaking away after 18 miles.
“;I'm very happy to be here,”; Zakharova said through an interpreter. “;The race actually went as i planned.”;
Zakharova won the 1997 and 2002 Honolulu Marathons and was second four times.
Shimahara was second in 2:29:53 and Chepchumba third in 2:32:41.
>> Also, Masazumi Soejima won the wheelchair division in 1:31:00.
>> Jonathan Lyau won the male kamaaina division, running 2:49:14.
>> Sara Verga was the women's kamaaina winner, with a time of 3:13:59.
>> Jessica Tranchina was first among women local residents, in 3:12:28.
>> Brandon Laan crossed as the first male local resident, in 2:25:41.
