Police arrested a 27-year-old woman this morning after she allegedly ran a red light and broad-sided a sedan, killing the 52-year-old driver in Kapolei.

Police believe the woman, from Kapolei, was speeding and intoxicated. She was booked on suspicion of first-degree negligent homicide.

The Honolulu Medical Examiner’s office has not released the identity of the man, who was from Ewa.

Police said about 1:30 a.m., the woman drove her sport utility vehicle mauka-bound into an intersection against the red light on Fort Barrette Road. She hit a 1985 Chevy sport sedan turning left onto Fort Barrette from Kapolei Parkway.

The driver of the sedan, who was alone in the car, died at the scene. The woman and a 28-year-old male passenger were not injured, police said.

It was the 36th traffic fatality on Oahu this year compared to 29 at the same time last year.
