Honolulu's Michelle Wie shot a 2-under 70 today at the Evian Masters. She enters tomorrow's final round tied for 23rd at 3-under 213 in the LPGA event in France.
Wie carded three bogeys and five birdies for her round, but is well off the pace in her first event in three weeks. She missed the Women's U.S. Open after failing to qualify and had to shake off some rust this week in the European phase of the tour.
Through three rounds, Wie has hit 24 fairways and 34 greens in regulation. She has needed 83 putts and is averaging 256.83 yards off the tee.
“;I couldn't get anything going again, I hit a birdie, and then a bogey,”; she told The Associated Press. “;Hopefully tomorrow I can get things going. It's little things here and there. I don't think I'm far off, but in golf that means a lot.”;
Wie opened with a 35 on the front after birdieing two par 5s on the front nine and one on the back to take advantage of her length off the tee. Wie has yet to find a round in the 60s this week and trails Sophie Gustafson (67), In-Kyung Kim (68) and Becky Brewerton (69 ) by nine shots.
She and world No. 1 Lorena Ochoa are in the marquee pairing that tees off at 12:12 a.m. Hawaii time.
